The Manchester United boss has admitted he is "worried" about Fellaini's contract stand-off.
While Mourinho also revealed that he is more concerned about the former Everton midfielder becoming a free agent than out-of favour full-back Luke Shaw, whose contract is also nearing its end.
He said: "I'm worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn't."
Having initially struggling to make a stamp in United's squad following his £27.5 million move from Everton in 2013, the Belgian has become a key part of the Red Devils team.
Fellaini scored four goals in eight starts for the club this season before suffering a knee injury while on duty for Belgium against Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 7.
Six United players - including Luke Shaw - are technically out of contract next summer.
And Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Phil Jones are all in line for extensions before Christmas.
Mourinho is reluctant to lose anyone on a free next summer, and wants to make sure he can at least get cash for any players who don't fit into his plans at Old Trafford.
