Chelsea's Nemanja Matic decision is looking even more ridiculous

Chelsea's decision to allow Nemanja Matic to leave for Manchester United is looking increasingly questionable.
And the experienced midfielder will return to his former stamping ground on Sunday insisting convincingly he has nothing to prove to his former employers.
Former United man Phil Neville is the latest to add his voice to those asking why the Stamford Bridge club were willing to sell such a pivotal figure to one of their main Premier League rivals.
Matic has quickly become United's main man while his replacement at Chelsea, Tiemoue Bakayoko, is still finding his feet at his new club.
He was out of sorts on Tuesday as Roma rode roughshod over them with a 3-0 Champions League win in the Italian capital while Matic was giving another commanding performance as United cruised past Benfica.
The Serb is sure to be the centre of attention when United travel to the Bridge on Sundayafternoon but, having won two titles there, isn't doubting himself - or feeling mixed emotions.
“When I played there I showed my quality," he said. "We won the title twice, we also won cups. So I don’t need to prove anything to them - I need to prove it to my new club.
“I spent a good time at Chelsea, three-and-a-half years is a long time, so, of course, it means a lot to me to go back. It’s going to be something special to play again in the stadium.
“But now I’m on the other side, I’m a Manchester United player. I’m a professional and I’m going to do my best against them to get three points for my team. We know how important this game is.”
Neville joined former United and Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins in criticising the Londoners' decision to allow Matic to move on for a relatively modest £35million fee.
He told 5Live: “What’s gone wrong for Chelsea? One word: Matic. It’s as simple as that. The minute they sold Matic was a mistake. Whoever made that decision needs sacking.
"That is one of the poorest decisions I have ever seen in the Premier League.
“If you ask any of those Chelsea players who they would want back, they would say Matic.”
Matic has hit the ground running at United, quickly taking a leadership role.
And even Jose Mourinho hinted he was surprised to land him after also targeting Totteham's Eric Dier.
He said last week: "I have the player that I want to have, probably I have the player I didn't think it was possible to have but we got the player I really wanted."
Chris Smalling, for one, is glad Mourinho got his man.
The United defender said: “Matic can do everything. You want to give him the ball because he’s able to find the attacking players very quickly but he’s also able to break things up - and we couldn’t ask for anyone better in the middle.
“We were always confident it wouldn’t take Matic long to settle in but he has definitely surpassed that.”
