Days after selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142 million, Liverpool are being linked with a raid on the Camp Nou.
No it's not to bring the Brazilian back or move for cult hero Luis Suarez, but for Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic instead.
BetStars are tipping Rakitic to leave Barcelona and have made Liverpool the 4/1 favourites to sign him. Arsenal follow at 6/1 and Manchester United 12/1.
Rakitic has been at Barcelona since 2014 when he signed from Sevilla.
While he turns 30 in March, the midfield schemer would be a huge upgrade on the departing Emre Can, and Jordan Henderson.
His future at Barcelona will depend on how Coutinho is used, whether he is played as one of a front three, or in a deeper midfield role, which would more directly impact Rakitic.
This season Rakitic has made 16 La Liga starts, providing three assists.
He may be reluctant to switch mid-season due to the fact he would miss out on winning La Liga with runaway leaders Barcelona, and playing in the Champions League.
