Willian: Happy to make a difference

After a week in which Willian had already made plenty of decisive contributions, the Brazilian had one more trick up his sleeve and he was thrilled it earned us a point at Anfield.
Introduced for Davide Zappacosta with time running out for us to avoid defeat against Liverpool, Willian needed just two minutes to get us back on level terms with a stunning diagonal chip that cleared Simon Mignolet and dipped under the crossbar. There was no doubt in his mind he meant it.
‘It was a shot, for sure!’ Willian said.
‘It was beautiful. I was a little bit lucky because the ball went right in the corner, but I am happy to come on and try and make the difference with my teammates, and then score a beautiful goal.
‘We created some chances in the first half. They created some chances as well. It was a good game. Of course we came to try to win, but we know how difficult it is to play against Liverpool here. Big team, great players. I think one point is good. Now we have to carry on like this.’
Antonio Conte has repeatedly said that at this busy time of the season every player in his squad has a crucial part to play. Willian had started and scored twice against Qarabag in midweek, and yesterday he made his impact off the bench.
‘For me of course I want to play every game, but we have to respect the decision and to try to do always our best football, whether you play 90 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes. We are professionals and we have to do our best.
‘In this time, we had to rest, to eat well. It’s difficult because we play consecutively every three days. This is a difficult moment but we have to stay together and win the games.’
