Keylor Navas wins the CONCACAF Player of the Year Award

Real Madrid and Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been awarded the CONCACAF Male Player of the Year Award for his accomplishments both in Spain with Los Blancos and with his native country.

Despite some criticism from Real Madrid fans, Keylor Navas was deemed the best male player in all of North America for his great play in goal.
This is the second time Keylor has won the CONCACAF Player of the Year Award with his first coming in his first year with Real Madrid in 2014. Thanks to five titles with Real Madrid during this calendar year, and being in goal for all five of the finals, Navas was a far and away the most qualified candidate for the award.
The voting for the award is “decided in an equally weighted vote among media, fans, and national team coaches and captains.”
The winner of the women’s award was United States international and Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan; her third time winning. Keylor recorded a video thanking those that voted for him and discussing how winning the award motivates him to become an even better player. Check it out.

While Navas has been incredibly streaky throughout the last year, I have to say it makes sense he wins the award. He is by far the most successful player from the CONCACAF region playing abroad. It also helps that he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world during such a fruitful period.

After getting a clean sheet against Grêmio in the FIFA Club World Cup Saturday, and winning this award Sunday, Navas is riding a bit of a hot streak right now. Let’s hope that continues into the weekend against FC Barcelona.
