Alexis Sanchez has said his goodbyes to his team-mates at Arsenal after receiving a late night phone call ahead of his move to Manchester United. The Daily Mirror claimed that Sanchez would be included in the Gunners’ squad for the side’s clash with Crystal Palace, with Arsene Wenger considering playing the Chilean at the Emirates. However, the same publication later reported that Sanchez received a call at 11pm on Friday night before leaving Arsenal’s squad at the team hotel. The dramatic late development would indicate that a deal could finally be confirmed over the weekend.

It’s understood United are set to pay £35million for Sanchez this January, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan to sign for the Gunners in exchange for the Chilean attacker. Wenger admitted that the move would ‘likely’ to be finalised within 24 hours on Thursday but no official announcement has been made ahead of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

The former Barcelona forward came on as a second-half substitute in Arsenal’s goalless draw at Chelsea but was omitted from Wenger’s squad for the side’s defeat at Bournemouth. Asked about Sanchez on Friday, Jose Mourinho said: ‘It’s just thinking about the improvement of the team in the future.
