Three former Premier League referees have blasted Spanish official Antonio Lahoz for his Champions League gaffe.
The ref wrongly disallowed a Leroy Sane goal which would have made it 2-0 at half time as Manchester City sought to overhaul a three-goal deficit from the first leg.
Lahoz and his assistants all failed to spot that, although Sane was standing in an offside position as he shot past Loris Karius, he received the ball from Liverpool man James Milner.
Former ref Graham Poll, writing in the Daily Mail , said. “City have been the victims of poor refereeing decisions in three consecutive games which have defined their season.”
He said that Lahoz's error had a 'massive impact' on the game but agreed Pep Guardiola deserved to be sent to the stands for his reaction to the mistake.
He added: “I could understand the assistant thinking Gabriel Jesus had played the ball but from his position Lahoz should have over-ruled him and allowed the goal.”
