The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has taken a decision to fine former Croatia player Ognjen Vukojevic 15,000 Swiss francs (about AUS$20,250) for his unsporting behaviour following the World Cup quarter-final encounter with hosts Russia.
According to their statement, Vukojevic was fined for publishing a video featuring him shouting "This a victory for Dynamo [(Kiev) and Ukraine]" on social media after his side's victory over Russia.
Croatia beat hosts Russia on penalties in Sochi on Sunday (AEST) following a 2-2 draw after extra time to book a spot in the World Cup semi-finals, where they will face England.
On Saturday night, a video showing Croatia defender Domagoj Vida shouting "Glory to Ukraine!" and Vukojevic saying "This is a victory for Dynamo [Kiev] and Ukraine" appeared on social media. Both of them previously played for Dynamo.
On Monday, the Croatian Football Federation (NHS) suspended coaching assistant Ognjen Vukojevic from his duties at this summer's World Cup.
FIFA's press service reported that the Disciplinary Committee had taken into consideration the fact that NHS had apologized for the incident.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be played at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
