Cristiano Ronaldo last night drew level with Lionel Messi for Ballon d'Or victories when he lifted his fifth award after firing Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League glory.
The Los Blancos forward hit 42 goals in 46 games last season (remarkably his second lowest tally since arriving at the Bernabeu) as Zinedine Zidane's men captured their first La Liga title in five years and successfully defended the Champions League.
And, at a ceremony underneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Portugal captain was brought level with his Argentine rival on five Ballon d'Ors a piece, further adding fuel to the debate about who is the better player.
And, after receiving the award, the 32-year-old discussed his rivalry with Messi and revealed that he hopes it continues for years to come as the pair seek to extend their decade long dominance of world football's individual honours.
"I feel very happy, it's a fantastic moment in my career, I've been waiting for this for a long time.
"This year has been great, we won the Champions League and La Liga and, on a personal level, I was a top scorer in the Champions League
